In
the winter of 1994, Midwest Motor Vehicles, Inc. in Madison,
WI started distribution with the Qingqi line of scooters.
At the time, virtually no companies were importing and distributing
powersports products from China or Taiwan. They knew the
powersports industry operated on slim margins, and products
from China would give them an opportunity to offer dealers
much bigger margins than they were accustomed to. They also
knew the keys to success in this industry were service and
quality. If they were going to break down barriers and sell
Chinese products in an industry largely dominated by the
Japanese, they would have to provide quality products backed
by some of the best service this industry has ever seen.
Much
has changed since 1994. Midwest Motor Vehicles, Inc.
kept its focus on quality and service and
multiplied in
size. The original office was too small, so Midwest Motor
Vehicles, Inc. moved to larger location across town.
The product line changed with the addition of new
scooters
as well as dirt bikes and ATVs, including the extremely
popular Midwest Bobcat. Sales continued to climb with
every year being better than the previous. Each year
Midwest
grew, adding more employees and expanding the parts department.
Midwest also focused on developing strong relationships
with the biggest and best manufacturers in China, Jianshe
and Jincheng. As more and more importers jumped into
the fray, Midwest fought them off by offering its
dealers better
quality, a bigger line of products and outstanding service
and parts support.
What
was an industry with very few importers of Chinese
products has become an industry with an abundance of
them. Many have come and gone barely surviving
a single season.
The lower prices and higher margins offered by Chinese
products have forced competitors to adjust their pricing
to remain competitive. Pocket bikes and pit bikes have
become big sellers with the market becoming so flooded
dealers and importers can compete only on price.
Today, Midwest Motor Vehicles, Inc. is the largest it’s
ever been. We continue to focus on quality and service.
The parts department is bigger than ever housing more than
$2 million in inventory, quality is at an all-time high
and the service is some of the best in the industry.
In
June of 2005 Midwest Motor Vehicles, Inc. is going
to unveil
its newest product, one it believes will change
the ATV market forever: the Mountain Lion 400 4x4.
